Mypaloma to host JCU briefing
CAIRNS-BASED tech start-up mypaloma™ will host a local briefing at James Cook University this Wednesday, the 14th of January, as it prepares to launch a global artificial intelligence challenge next month.

The event will run from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm at the JCU Smithfield campus, in the Ideas Lab, and will mark the beginning of what organisers describe as a 10-month international program.
Mypaloma co-founder Regina Meyer said the challenge had been postponed to allow more time for preparation and is now scheduled to launch next month.
“We ended up postponing the challenge and it is now set to launch next month,” she said.
Wednesday’s briefing is intended to kick off a 10-month journey, featuring more than 20 scheduled events and touchpoints, led by a Cairns-based team positioning itself as an ethics-first alternative to mainstream artificial intelligence platforms.
Ms Meyer said the session would provide an opportunity for attendees to meet the founders, learn more about what distinguishes mypaloma from other AI systems and understand the scope of the challenge ahead.
“We are hosting a local briefing to kick off what becomes a 10-month, global journey, with 20+ scheduled events/touchpoints, as a Cairns team takes on the tech giants in Silicon Valley with an ethics-first alternative to mainstream AI,” she said.
The briefing will also outline how local businesses and media organisations can engage with the project as it develops.
The challenge will run for 10 months following its launch, with a series of events planned throughout to maintain engagement and visibility.
The JCU event is open to invited guests, with organisers asking attendees to book in advance to secure a seat.
Tickets can be booked at Humanitix here: https://bit.ly/4jFtVef.
Those unable to attend in person will have opportunities to engage with the project as it progresses through its various stages over the coming months.
The Wednesday briefing is expected to be the first public step in what organisers say will be a long-term, global initiative originating from Cairns.
