Event has WOW factor
THE WOW – Women of the World Festival – is in full swing in Cairns.
It has returned to Cairns to celebrate 150-plus years of the contribution of women and girls to the city and region.
WOW executive producer Jo Pratt said the festival, which opened yesterday and continues today and tomorrow, brought “a wave of inspiration, connection and celebration to the region”.
“We are incredibly excited to bring the energy and impact of the WOW movement back to Cairns,” she said.
“WOW is a festival, not a conference – it’s about joy, courage and possibility.
“By creating a space where diverse voices unite to share stories of triumph and challenge, we empower individuals and strengthen the fabric of the community.
“We believe that by celebrating local women and connecting them to a global network, we can help highlight regional women’s voices.
“We are thrilled to return to Cairns in 2026 as part of the city’s 150th celebrations”
“This isn’t just an event for Cairns, it’s an event designed by Cairns.
“Through local “Think-ins” and community meetings, we are co-creating a program that reflects the heart and soul of the region – and the stories that Cairns wants to tell.”
The event includes:
A men’s leadership breakfast
AdvertisementPanel discussions and ‘in conversations’
A WOW schools day with speed mentoring
A hilarious WOW Comedy Gala hosted by comedian Ellen Briggs
Free all-day community concert and marketplace
WOW bites – inspirational short stories of hope
WOW healing space.
A program highlight is “In conversation” with WOW Australia patron and former Governor General of Australia, Dame Quentin Bryce, and royal correspondent and journalist Juliete Rieden, with a range of special guests for the Cairns launch of ‘Quentin Bryce: The Authorised Biography’.
Ms Bruce said she loved “WOW’s genuine inclusiveness, being there for all woman”.
“Supporting, encouraging, having sparkling fun, music, art, conversation. WOW thrives on energy, commitment, creativity, ideas, listening, daring to be bold, developing leadership,” she said.
