North Cairns Tigers 04.05.29 defeated by South Cairns Cutters 12.15.87

THE Tigers showed promise in the early stages of the match, kicking the first two goals of the game through Darcy Keast and Jahmahl Jenkins-Clive, while keeping the Cutters goalless in the first quarter.

And that’s kind of where it stopped for the Tigers, going goalless themselves for the next two quarters.

South Cairns dominated the contest from the start of the second term with Jordan Harrington racking up a massive 43 disposals and four goals for the game while skipper Jeremy Piercy worked hard for his 36 touches.

The Tigers were without some key players, sorely missing the ruckwork and playmaking of Louis Campbell-Kossack, the goalkicking of Lewis George and the versatility of Cooper Cartledge.

The Cutters take their season tally to seven wins and one loss, sitting comfortably in second place on the AFL Cairns ladder while the reverse is true for the Tigers, totalling one win and seven losses and sitting second last on the table.

Centrals Trinity Beach 08.11.59 defeated by Port Douglas Crocs 14.14.98

THE Crocs’ undefeated season continues as they confidently march towards September with a solid win over Bulldogs at Crathern Park on Saturday.

The depth of the Port Douglas midfield is what dreams are made of with names like Murphy Short, Liam Brandt, Sam Fairclough, Ben Mcphee and Brett McKeown all being fed by Thomas Cantwell in the ruck, who had a dominant 47 hit outs for the match.

In the absence of goal scoring gun Kye Chapple, Max Hemphill was lively up forward for the Crocs with three goals, while teammates Shay Linke, Brodie Francis and Jake Cook all booted two goals apiece.

For the Bulldogs, Cody Stackelberg was the standout with 23 touches and seven tackles while last year’s Matt Walsh medallist, Josh Butland, was the major goalscorer for the Dogs kicking three for the game.

Manunda Hawks 06.09.45 defeated by Cairns Saints 14.12.96

THE Saints maintain third position on the AFL Cairns ladder with a satisfying win over the Hawks at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday despite the Hawks outscoring their opponents five goals to one in the third quarter to give themselves a glimmer of hope.

Raymond Hill had a cracking game for the Saints, collecting 31 disposals while skipper Connor Kirtley and Bailey Wallace had 24 and 22 touches respectively.

The ridiculous leap and athleticism of ruck Fred Thompson in stoppages saw him finish with a game high 31 hit outs and eight clearances while Zac Straker and Adam Gross kicked three majors each for the Saints.

Hawks co-captain Josh Welsford worked hard all day collecting 25 disposals and a massive 16 tackles while up forward Ezekial Frank amassed 25 touches and three goals as a shining light for Manunda.
