Boost to social housing
A FOUR-storey social housing building for 42 people, including individuals, couples and small families has been approved at Westcourt.

A Department of Housing and Public Works spokesman said the plan was for 21, two-bedroom units for people on the state’s social housing register.
According to the department’s website, the new development in Ascot Avenue is close to public transport, a shopping centre, medical facilities, schools and restaurants.
The development will feature:
21 car parks
12 bicycle parks.
The development will be designed thoughtfully to:
Align with the local planning scheme
Minimise impact on neighbouring properties
Contribute to diverse and sustainable communities.
The Cairns Housing Service Centre will refer applicants from the social housing register to live in the new homes and manage the tenancies.
Construction is planned to start in late 2026 to be ready for people to move in by late 2027.
